New York Construction Accident Lawyer from The Perecman Firm Says Fatal Hit-and-Run Spotlights Need for More Construction Site Safety Measures
New York construction accident lawyer David Perecman comments on a hit-and-run crash that killed a construction worker on a roadway construction site in New York and the need for improved construction site safety.
NEW YORK, NY, November 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A hit-and-run accident killed a construction worker at a construction site in Fort Salonga, New York last week.
Victor Schultz and a co-worker were loading a milling machine onto a trailer at the time of the New York construction accident. They were on the side of the road when Schultz was struck by the vehicle, according to CBS New York.
The road was not lit with special construction lighting at the time of the construction site accident, reported CBS New York.
"The need for safety is paramount on any construction site, however, given the increased risk factors of the roadway, accident prevention is even more critical," said New York construction accident lawyer Perecman. "Many traffic construction accidents could be avoided."
The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries reports 545 workers killed after being struck by vehicles in 2009-2010.
New York construction accident lawyers understand that New York State laws require jobsite owners and contractors, and their agents, to provide a safe workplace for construction workers.
"Construction companies must take the necessary precautions to protect workers. If they do not, the construction worker's family may have a claim against those who were responsible for construction site safety in addition to a claim against the driver who hit their loved one," said David Perecman, the former head New York construction accident lawyer for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and a lecturer on construction accident law.
